Our Eltham Centre

Eltham offers

Our SE9 centre is based in New Eltham an attractive suburb of London and part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It's packed with beautiful parks and gardens, Tudor and Art Deco architecture and is where children’s author E. Nesbit lived.

Just a few miles from Greenwich's downtown, Eltham is home to a lively neighbourhood, Tudor and Art Deco buildings, Bob Hope and Boy George's birthplaces, and E. Nesbit, one of the best children's authors of the 20th century.

Eltham was adored by Henry VIII. Eltham Palace and Gardens, where he spent his formative years, was one of his favourite places during his life. Henry was a true local because he was born at Greenwich's Tudor palace of Placentia, which once stood by the Thames where the Old Royal Naval College now sits.

The Great Hall that Henry knew is still there and is now connected to the spectacular Art Deco House that eccentric millionaires Stephen and Virginia Courtauld erected in the 1930s. Eltham Palace still has some of the original Tudor architecture. This impressive mansion is surrounded by 19 acres of award-winning grounds, including the oldest working bridge in London, a rock garden, and herbacious borders.

E. Nesbit, the author of The Railway Children, lived in Well Hall Pleasaunce. The woodland glen, attractive garden, and last surviving Tudor Barn in London—now a restaurant and bar—are reasons to go.

Severndroog Castle is a Gothic castle encircled by beautiful old woodland on Shooter's Hill, one of London's highest points. Atop this romantic gimmick, you may enjoy stunning vistas of seven distinct counties.
